In response to the United States’ veto of Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, Palestinian National Authority President Abu Mazen announced that they will reassess their bilateral relations with the U.S. to protect the interests of the Palestinian people, cause, and rights. The Palestinian agency Wafa reported this statement.
On a different note, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for meeting with Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Istanbul. Katz accused Erdogan of supporting terrorism by associating with Hamas, calling the alliance an act of rape, murder, and desecration.
Erdogan and Haniyeh’s meeting in Istanbul lasted over two and a half hours and included former Hamas leader Khaled Meshal, Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The discussions focused on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, challenges in delivering aid, achieving a ceasefire with Israel, and escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
The Turkish president emphasized the importance of Palestinian unity against Israel and reiterated the necessity of a two-state solution for peace. Erdogan emphasized that staying united is the strongest response to Israel and that justice will prevail. Meanwhile, ongoing violence in the West Bank and Gaza has resulted in numerous casualties, including Palestinian militants being killed in Israeli raids and clashes.
Despite the conflict and casualties, the Palestinian people’s resilience and determination remain strong. A Palestinian ambulance driver was tragically shot and killed while evacuating wounded individuals during a clash with Israeli settlers in the West Bank. The Ministry of Health in Ramallah reported this incident, adding to the toll of lives lost in the ongoing violence.
