The XCC race in Crans Montana provided a unique challenge compared to the grass loop in Val di Sole, with the loose and muddy steeps making the race feel more like a shorter XCO event. In the U23 racing, Emilly Johnston claimed victory in the women’s category, while Riley Amos secured his fourth XCC win out of five in 2024. Puck Pieterse also impressed with back-to-back XCC wins, setting the fastest time in Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Tom Pidcock staged an incredible comeback in the men’s race, starting from last place on lap one after a slipped pedal, crash, and near miss on the slippery descents. Pidcock showcased his strength and skill by gradually moving through the pack over the next five laps to secure the win by a mere two seconds. Julian Schelb claimed second place, with Luca Braidot finishing third, six seconds behind the leader.

The U23 men tackled a muddy XCO course immediately following the elite XCC races, while the remaining races were scheduled for Sunday. With no other events taking place during this weekend’s races, it was clear that cross-country racing was at its forefront. The challenges faced by racers on these courses were unique and required both physical and mental strength to overcome them.
