The Senators finished last season ranked 31st in the league with a .884 save percentage and 28th in goals against. This poor performance in goalkeeping severely impacted their chances of making the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. As a result, they ended the season with only 78 points, placing seventh in the Atlantic Division.

Ullmark is seen as one of the best options available to the Senators in the trade market for goaltenders.
