OSHA Report Reveals Dangers of Patient Harassment for Nurses, Healthcare Workers at Northern Arizona VA Medical Center

OSHA Reports VA Health System Put Workers at Risk of Patient Violence

Nurses, nursing assistants, and housekeeping staff at the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System’s Bob Stump VA Medical Center in Prescott, Ariz., are at risk of physical and sexual harassment from patients due to inadequate protection from violent behavior. This is the second time in four years that the facility has been found to have violated safety protocols.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) determined that the medical center failed to provide adequate protection to health-care workers. In response, OSHA issued the medical center a notice of unsafe working conditions and required them to demonstrate that they have taken steps to address the hazards outlined.

It is important for healthcare facilities to prioritize the safety and security of their employees in order to provide quality care to their patients. The findings by OSHA highlight the need for improved safety measures in healthcare facilities. By addressing the root causes of patient violence and implementing proper protocols, medical centers can create a safer environment for workers.
