On Monday, city officials in Orlando approved the development of a downtown sports and entertainment district. The 8.5-acre complex will be situated next to the Kia Center at West Church Street and South Hughey Avenue in downtown Orlando, with construction expected to commence in late 2024.
The mixed-use project will span 900,000 square feet and include a hotel, 270 residential units, a 3,500-capacity live entertainment venue, office space, and various dining and shopping options. This development is slated for completion by March 2027 and is anticipated to generate 3,400 jobs.
Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins expressed excitement about the project moving forward and bringing the sports and entertainment district to life. He believes that it will have a positive impact on the local economy by attracting visitors and businesses.
City Commissioner Tony Ortiz stated that the project will be a significant initiative that will incentivize businesses and help fill empty office spaces. He believes it will bring people back to downtown Orlando and revitalize the area. The city has been a supportive partner in the development of this vibrant new destination in downtown Orlando.
