Orbán and Meloni: The Battle for Power in Europe’s New Far-Right Bloc”.

Giorgia Meloni directly impacted by Viktor Orbán’s actions – Right-wing forces in Europe undergoing rapid reorganization

Two new far-right groups are emerging in the European Parliament, according to recent reports. The first group, founded by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and leader of the Fidesz party, is expected to be officially announced next Thursday, July 4th. Meanwhile, the German AfD party is driving a second group based on nationalist populism.

While both groups have garnered attention, experts believe that Viktor Orbán’s new group holds more interest. The former prime minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš of the ANO party, is set to join it along with Janez Janša, led by the Democratic Party of Slovenia. On the other hand, the AfD group has been joined by Spanish Se Acabó La Fiesta, Greek national conservative NIHK, and Romanian nationalist populist party SOS Romania.

What sets this situation apart is that the former Polish prime minister’s Law and Justice party has expressed its intention to join Viktor Orbán’s new group. As currently the second largest party in ECR Group of European Parliament after Italian Prime Minister’s Party Fratelli d’Italia, their inclusion could impact Giorgia Meloni’s powerful position within European Parliament dynamics.

According to experts interviewed by Politico, Viktor Orbán’s new group of MEPs may hit particularly hard on Meloni and affect her standing within European Parliament politics.

Overall, this development marks a significant shift in right-wing politics in Europe and could have significant implications for the future direction of EU policy making.
