OpenAI’s GPT-4o: A New Era of Generative AI with Limited Access in ChatGPT

Limitations in the free version of ChatGPT now include GPT-4o by OpenAI

OpenAI has recently announced the release of its latest generative AI model, GPT-4o, which is now being implemented in the free version of the ChatGPT tool with limited access. This new model supports different modalities such as text, audio, and image inputs with a minimum response time of 232 milliseconds. It is designed to coexist with the current model, GPT-3.5, that powers the tool.

Initially intended for premium subscribers, OpenAI has introduced “limited access” to GPT-4o in the free version of ChatGPT on the web. The free version of ChatGPT offers access to both GPT-3.5 and limited features such as advanced data analysis, file uploads, image recognition, web browsing, and custom GPT models. Users can switch between the models by selecting from the options menu at the bottom of the toolbar. GPT-3.5 is labeled as “the fastest”, while GPT-4o is described as a “smart and fast” model.

Users on the free plan will have access to GPT-4o by default but with a limit on the number of messages they can send. If GPT-4o is unavailable, users will revert to GPT-3.5. OpenAI also mentions that users with access to GPT-4o will have limited use of advanced tools like data analysis, file uploads, and GPT discovery among others.

In summary, OpenAI’s introduction of GPT-4o in the free version of ChatGPT offers users an opportunity to experience the latest AI model with limited access while enhancing their interactions and capabilities within the tool.
