Ontario’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative: Leasing Commercial Space for $1 per Month

NBC Los Angeles Reports: Ontario Program Offers Business Space for Lease at $1

The city of Ontario is offering a unique opportunity for business owners to lease commercial space in its downtown area for just $1 per month. This limited-time offer, known as the Downtown Ontario Retail Pop-Up Program, includes free utilities and access to a Wi-Fi hotspot. The program is designed to attract new businesses and help revitalize the downtown area.

Peter Pallesen, an economic development coordinator with the city of Ontario, explained that the city is fortunate to own the buildings and can provide the $1 rent to assist in lowering the barrier of entry for business owners. Since its inception last year, the program has already helped two entrepreneurs open their own stores in downtown Ontario. The city is now looking to fill the remaining spaces with new businesses by the end of the year.

One of the participating business owners, Steven Alcarez, co-owner of Street Culture Boutique, expressed his initial disbelief at the offer but was able to open his store six months ago with the help of the program. He shared that the affordable rent has allowed him to focus on growing his business and marketing his products to attract customers. Alcarez sees great potential in Ontario’s downtown area, likening it to a bustling metropolis like downtown LA with an active nightlife.

Business owners interested in leasing one of the available properties in the program have until Monday, June 24 to submit an application. Applicants must apply for all necessary permits, provide proof of general liability insurance, make a deposit of $1 per square foot, and sign a release of liability waiver and Right of Entry permit.
