Ohio State Golfer Neal Shipley Impresses at U.S. Open and Joins Ranks of Prodigious Amateurs

Ohio State men’s golfer Neal Shipley has had an impressive season beyond the college game. He finished as the low amateur at the U.S. Open this past weekend, just two shots ahead of Florida State’s Luke Clanton. This achievement comes after he previously achieved the same feat at the Master’s earlier this year, making him one of only three amateurs to make the cut at Pinehurst No. 2.

As a graduate student, Shipley becomes just the tenth amateur golfer to win low amateur at both the Master’s and U.S. Open in the same year, joining another former Buckeye, Jack Nicklaus. Shipley has proven that he can compete with the best in the sport and is on track for a successful professional golf career. His impressive performances at these PGA majors show his potential for a long and distinguished career in golf.
