Obama expresses concern about Biden’s re-election prospects after tense debate against Trump

Washington Post reports Obama’s concerns about Biden

Last Thursday’s debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump has caused former US President Barack Obama to express concern about Biden’s re-election, according to the Washington Post. Sources close to Obama indicate that he believes Biden’s path to victory has become more challenging after the debate. Despite this, Obama has continued to publicly support Biden and actively participate in his campaign.

However, privately, Obama has expressed deep concerns about Trump’s political strength and the possibility of his re-election. In December, during a private lunch at the White House, Obama advised Biden to strengthen his campaign apparatus and appoint a top-level decision-maker. While there have been calls for Biden to drop out of the race, Obama has maintained his support for him based on their history of working together.

Despite these concerns, Obama has appeared at fundraising events with Biden, including one with George Clooney and Julia Roberts that raised over $30 million. In April, Obama, Biden, and former President Bill Clinton raised over $26 million at an event in New York. While there have been setbacks in the polls following the debate, it is unclear how much impact this will have on Biden’s chances of winning in November.
