The Oaks Christian boys golf team finished second at the CIF/SCGA Southern State Regional Championship at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills on Wednesday. The team posed with the runner-up plaque and celebrated their advancement to next Thursday’s state championship. Four players shot under par to secure their spot in the state championship.
Nick Benton contributed with a 2-over 76 as the Lions set a school record with an impressive 11-under 359 team score. They finished six shots behind first-place Torrey Pines, securing one of the three team qualifying spots for the state tournament, with Classical Academy of Escondido securing the final spot with a 7-under 363.
Senior Jared Abercrombie led the Lions with an impressive 7-under-par 67, earning second place overall behind Diamond Bar sophomore Logan Park. Park tied Rickie Fowler’s SCGA high school record with a 10-under 64. Sophomore Max Emberson, who won the CIF-Southern Section individual title the week before, fired a 3-under 71 to tie for 14th place.
