Novant Health Announces Layoffs of Analytics, Data Engineers and Software Developers in North and South Carolina

Novant Health to cut over 170 jobs in North Carolina and South Carolina

Novant Health locations across North and South Carolina announced layoffs this week. On June 25, 2024, the organization at 6237 Carolina Commons Drive in Indian Land, SC, shared news of laying off 90 employees, effective on Aug. 25. In Winston-Salem, Novant Health’s facility at 101 North Cherry Street is set to lay off 81 employees on the same date.

The positions impacted by the layoffs include analytics developers, data engineers, and software developers. All employees received a 60-day notice before their termination. It’s worth noting that these employees are not represented by a union.

Novant Health has announced a new IT model for its Digital Products and Services (DPS) team in response to recent changes in the healthcare industry. Some DPS services were transferred to an external partner and additional DPS functions are now being shifted to Deloitte Digital. This move will reduce Novant Health’s use of external partners by more than 90 percent, allowing the organization to invest more in creating a healthier future for the communities it serves.

Due to these changes, some DPS team members will see adjustments in their roles and responsibilities while other roles are being phased out. Less than 300 team members or less than 0.8% of the nearly 40,000 positions across Novant Health’s system will be impacted. Impacted team members may have the opportunity to join external partners or transition to roles within Novant Health. The organization is extending resources to ease the transition for team members who are not able to remain with Novant Health and is grateful for their service to the organization and its patients.

In response to concerns about job loss due to this announcement, Novant Health stated that it was “not taking lightly” the impact on employees who would be affected by these changes.

“We understand how important our team members are,” said Jeff Smithson, president of Novant Health’s Digital Products and Services (DPS) division.

“We want our team members to know that we value their contributions,” added Smithson.

The company is working closely with its affected employees to identify opportunities for them within or outside of their current role at Novant Health.

Smithson stated that “we hope that all our affected team members find new opportunities that allow them to continue contributing positively.”
