Northwestern University’s Business and Finance Division Announces Promotions, Fostering Financial Excellence

Northwestern University’s business and finance division has recently announced three promotions. The division is responsible for providing critical services and support to the University in order to achieve academic and research excellence. The staff within this division collaborate with all areas of the University to effectively manage resources and utilize financial capacity in alignment with programmatic and strategic initiatives.

DeBorah Krueger has been promoted to executive director of finance and administration, a newly established role that will see her serve as chief of staff to Amanda Distel, vice president and chief financial officer. With 25 years of experience across various facets of Northwestern’s operations, Krueger brings valuable knowledge and strategic foresight that will help guide the University’s financial functions towards excellence.

Nicole Van Laan has been promoted to assistant vice president for finance, having previously served as Northwestern’s controller for eight years and as an auditor at Deloitte. In her new role, Van Laan will lead critical financial units such as accounting services, depository services, tax and regulatory services, and treasury. She will be instrumental in driving efficient and effective financial reporting and operations for the University.

Daniel Durack has been promoted to senior associate vice president for budget and planning, recognizing his expertise in steering Northwestern’s long-range planning and budget endeavors. With a history of serving in various roles within the Office of Budget and Planning since 2015, including most recently holding the position of associate vice president for budget and planning, Durack is a trusted financial advisor to University leadership who ensures that financial resources are effectively aligned to support Northwestern’s strategic priorities.
