North Korea Sends Waste-Laden Balloons into South Korea, Prompting Security Concerns and Protests”.

North Korea dispatches around 150 balloons carrying garbage and propaganda flyers to the South

In recent days, the North Korean regime has followed through on its threats by sending around 150 balloons containing waste and propaganda leaflets into border provinces in South Korea. The army in South Korea has found many of these balloons, with some still believed to be in the air. The bags attached to the balloons contained items such as manure, plastic bottles, batteries, and pieces of shoes.

Reports suggest that the bags also contained animal excrement, according to Cheong Seong-chang of the Sejong Institute. The South Korean army called these actions violations of international law and threats to their security, urging North Korea to stop these inhumane acts. This incident is not the first time balloons have been used for propaganda purposes.

In early May, South Korean activists claimed to have sent balloons carrying anti-Pyongyang leaflets and USB sticks with K-pop content across the border. Balloons have been a common method used by North Korean dissidents in South Korea to encourage rebellion against the Pyongyang regime. Authorities have advised residents to avoid approaching the balloons and to contact officials if found.
