North Dakota health officials have issued a warning to residents about recalled mushroom edibles that may be linked to a death in the state. The Prophet Premium Blends Diamond Shruumz products were recalled on June 28, according to a release from North Dakota Health and Human Services. It is advised that residents not consume, sell or serve these products, which include chocolate bars, cones, gummies and related items that may still be available online or in stores selling hemp-derived, smoking, and vaping products.
The Health and Human Services department has collaborated with the poison control center and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate this incident. A death in North Dakota has been identified as possibly linked to the Diamond Shruumz products containing muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms of the Amanita genus. This chemical could lead to symptoms experienced by individuals who became ill after consuming these products.
As of July 2nd, there have been 48 reported illnesses in 24 states related to these products. Of those affected, 46 individuals sought medical attention while 27 were hospitalized due to symptoms such as seizures, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, abnormal heart rates, irregular blood pressure nausea and vomiting.
