Nightwing: Independent Cybersecurity and Intelligence Divided from RTX in $1.3 Billion Sale to Private Equity Firm Blackstone

After sale, RTX Cyber and Intel Business is Rebranded as Nightwing

In 2024, Nightwing, an independent cybersecurity and intelligence division previously owned by RTX, was launched. This change was announced months after RTX revealed a $1.3 billion deal in their quarterly financial reports. A spokesperson from RTX confirmed the sale, stating that Nightwing is now separate from the defense contractor and not connected to them. However, the buyer was not disclosed by the spokesperson, although Reuters had reported it as private equity firm Blackstone.

Nightwing’s leadership is comprised of former RTX employees, including John DeSimone, Steve Worley, Timothy Zentz, Jon Check, Lori Scherer, and Ron McDermott. The company boasts a wealth of experience, claiming to have been in development for 40 years before becoming independent in 2024.

RTX is one of the largest defense contractors in the world, ranking second in terms of defense-related revenue. The company based in Virginia generated $39.6 billion in defense revenue in 2022 and $41.9 billion in 2021 as reported by the Defense News Top 100 list.
