NFL’s first-ever South American showdown: Eagles vs. Packers in Brazil

Packers and Eagles to Face off in NFL’s First Brazil Game; São Paulo to Host Historic 2024 Season Opener

The NFL’s first-ever South American showdown has been officially set with the Philadelphia Eagles scheduled to play against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil. This historic game will take place on September 6th, a Friday night event following the season opener in 2024. The announcement of the Packers as the Eagles’ opponent came after weeks of speculation, with the NFL considering the Cleveland Browns as another potential team for the game.

Both Hurts and Love entered the NFL in the 2020 draft and became key players for their respective teams in the 2023 season. The matchup will be held at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, marking the first time two high-profile young quarterbacks, Jalen Hurts of the Eagles and Jordan Love of the Packers, will face each other on a global stage.

The game will also be unique as it is a Week 1 matchup set on a Friday since 1970, exclusively streamed on NBC’s Peacock along with broadcasts on NFL+ and local TV networks. Despite being played in Brazil, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie expressed excitement about bringing Eagles football to Brazil and connecting with its diverse and vibrant culture. With Brazil having 38 million sports fans, this game presents an opportunity to engage with fans worldwide and showcase American football on an international stage.
