NFL veteran Tony Jefferson returns to league after taking a year off

Chargers add experience to secondary with signing of Tony Jefferson

Tony Jefferson has rejoined the NFL, as the Chargers announced his signing today. The 32-year-old safety took a break from the league during the 2023 season but is now back in the game. Jefferson started his career in the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Cardinals in 2013 and played four seasons with them before moving to the Ravens in 2017. He spent three seasons in Baltimore before sitting out the 2020 season.

After a brief stint in San Francisco and another short stay in Baltimore, Jefferson played for the Giants in 2022. Initially planning to retire and pursue a career in scouting, Jefferson had a change of heart and decided he still had something left to give on the field. He will now have to compete for a spot on the Chargers’ roster during training camp, but the team is giving him that opportunity to prove himself.
