NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative Selects Morehouse Grad Eden Obomeghie

Colts Unveil Candidate for 2024 NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative

Eden Obomeghie has been selected by the Indianapolis Colts as their candidate for the 2024 NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative. Currently pursuing her Doctor of Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine, Obomeghie completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Houston in 2018. She also received an associate’s degree from Houston Community College in 2015.

The NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative was established in 2022 with the goal of increasing and diversifying the pipeline of students interested in pursuing careers in sports medicine and ultimately diversifying NFL club medical staffs. Students from 21 medical schools have been matched with NFL clubs for one-month clinical rotations focused on primary care sports medicine and orthopedic surgery.

During their rotations, students will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the care of NFL players under the supervision of medical staff such as orthopedic team physicians, athletic trainers, dietitians, mental health clinicians, and more. This initiative is part of the NFL’s commitment to ensuring diversity and inclusion among staff and leaders at both the league office and NFL clubs.

Obomeghie expressed her excitement about participating in the initiative and hopes to expand her skills and knowledge in sports medicine through this experience.
