NFI Acquires Transfix’s Freight Brokerage Operation: Enhancing Capabilities and Customer Experience through Technology

NFI Acquires Brokearge Business Division from Transfix

NFI, a logistics company based in Camden, has recently announced the acquisition of Transfix’s freight brokerage operation. As part of the deal, Transfix will shift its focus to its software, with NFI becoming the first customer for Transfix’s Transportation Management System. This move will allow NFI to expand its brokerage business, utilizing its existing in-house technology, and adding over 15,000 motor carriers to its network.

With facilities at ports and freight hubs across North America, NFI will also be absorbing more than 100 Transfix employees. The CEO of NFI, Sid Brown, expressed excitement about the acquisition and highlighted how well Transfix’s solution aligns with NFI’s strategy, enhancing the experience for both companies’ customers. As one of the largest 3PLs in the marketplace, NFI plans to leverage its scale to offer a wider range of services to the Transfix customer base.

Founded in 2013, Transfix was a pioneer in tech-powered brokerage. The company has been known for its cutting-edge technology like automation and machine learning through its Intelligent Freight Platform. By divesting its freight brokerage operation, Transfix aims to focus entirely on bringing its technology to market as a Software-as-a-Service and data solutions provider catering specifically to brokers, shippers, and carriers.

David Broering, the president of integrated logistics solutions at NFI emphasized the potential of Transfix TMS to revolutionize their operations. This acquisition presents an opportunity for NFI to accelerate their digital approach and combine operational strength with technical expertise while delivering more value to their customers and carriers. Legal counsel for Transfix was provided by McCarter & English LLP and O’Melveny & Myers LLP while financial advisory services were provided by UBS. Cozen O’Connor served as legal counsel for NFI in this transaction.
