Newport County Bids Farewell to Manager Graham Coughlan and Looks Ahead with Signed Players and New Management

Newport Seeks “Different Direction” as Coughlan Departures

After the sacking of James Rowberry in October 2022, Newport County appointed Graham Coughlan as their new manager. However, the club announced that Coughlan has left his role as they aim to head in a “different direction”. During his 20-month tenure, Coughlan guided the team to an 18th place finish most recently.

Chairman Huw Jenkins expressed his respect for Coughlan and acknowledged the difficult decision to part ways with him. Jenkins commended Coughlan for his efforts in stabilizing the club over the past 18 months and wished him success in his future managerial endeavors. Despite the decision being tough, Jenkins emphasized the need to make changes in order to bring sustained success to Newport County and create a positive outlook for the club in the years to come.

Jenkins is optimistic that these changes will benefit the team and set them on a path towards long-term success. The chairman believes that bringing in new management will bring fresh ideas and energy to the team, which is crucial for sustained success. He also believes that bringing in new players with different skill sets will help the team adapt to different opponents and improve their overall performance on the field.
