Newcastle Bids Farewell to Five Key Players as Contracts Expire

Dummett and Karius are two of five players departing from Newcastle

Paul Dummett and Loris Karius, two key players for Newcastle, will depart the club when their contracts expire next month. Dummett, who is the club’s longest-serving player at 32 years old, has spent 23 years with the team. He started his career in the academy at nine years old and made 213 senior appearances during that time. On the other hand, Karius joined Newcastle in 2023 and played just two first-team games, including a defeat in the Carabao Cup against Manchester United in 2023.

Matt Ritchie is also leaving Newcastle after scoring 25 goals in 215 appearances during his time with the team. The Scotland midfielder played a vital role in helping Newcastle earn promotion from the Championship in 2017. In addition to Dummett, Karius, and Ritchie, defender Kell Watts and Republic of Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick will also be leaving the club when their contracts expire next month.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has praised the contributions of Dummett and Ritchie to the team over their time at St James’ Park. According to Howe, both players have had a significant impact on the team’s progress over the years. Although they are leaving Newcastle, Howe believes that they will always be remembered as crucial figures in helping to build a successful future for the club.

Despite losing some key players, Newcastle remains committed to building on its foundation and continuing to move forward into a brighter future. The club is confident that it can find new talent to fill these roles and continue to compete at a high level in both domestic and international competitions.
