New York Knicks Forward Julius Randle Out for the Season Due to Shoulder Injury, Missing Playoffs

New York Knicks forward Julius Randle will miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury that requires surgery, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Knicks have struggled in his absence, falling from fourth to fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

Randle was averaging 24 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5 assists per game before his injury. Despite initial hopes of returning for the playoffs, doctors advised against it due to the risk of permanent damage. Doctors have informed Randle that he is expected to be ready for the start of the 2024-25 season following surgery.

The Knicks, under the leadership of head coach Tom Thibodeau, are aiming for their third postseason appearance in four years. With seven games left in the regular season, they are currently in a play-in game spot. The addition of OG Anunoby in December was meant to bolster the Knicks’ roster, but injuries have hampered their performance. Anunoby has only played three games since Randle’s injury, dealing with his own injury issues. The team has struggled to find consistency without both key players on the court.
