New York Giants Show Support for Injured Quarterback Daniel Jones as He Takes a Positive Step in His Rehab

In practice, Giants’ Daniel Jones demonstrates accuracy and velocity in his throws

The New York Giants began Phase 3 of their offseason workout program with their first practice of organized team activities (OTAs) on Monday. Among those participating was quarterback Daniel Jones, who is still recovering from a torn ACL. Jones took a positive step in his rehab by joining 7-on-7 drills during the practice session. He completed passes to wide receivers Wan’Dale Robinson and Malik Nabers, the sixth overall pick in the draft.

Despite some struggles in the 2023 season and rumors of the Giants showing interest in drafting another quarterback, general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll continue to support Jones as their starting quarterback. Schoen expressed his confidence in Jones, stating that he believes in him as the team’s QB1.

While the team did bring in veteran quarterback Drew Lock as a backup option to Jones, they have made it clear that Lock will only assume the QB2 role unless Jones is unable to play due to injury. Jones’ progress in OTAs has been encouraging, with reports indicating that he is throwing with accuracy and velocity on the field. Overall, the Giants are optimistic about Jones’ recovery and are looking forward to having him back at full strength for the upcoming season.

Jones’ participation in OTAs marks an important milestone in his rehabilitation process after sustaining a torn ACL last year during preseason training camp.

In addition to supporting Jones as their starting QB1, Schoen and Daboll also expressed their belief that Lock can provide valuable depth behind him.

“We brought Drew Lock here because we believe he can be an effective backup for Daniel,” said Schoen during a press conference after Monday’s practice session.

With only a few months remaining before training camp begins in late July, Jones is focused on making sure he’s fully ready to lead the team onto the field next season.

“I feel good about where I am right now,” said Jones after Monday’s practice session. “I’m able to throw passes with accuracy and velocity on the field.”
