Beatrice Chebet of Kenya Smashes World Record in 10,000 Meters

Beatrice Chebet of Kenya made history at the Prefontaine Classic meet in Eugene, setting a new world record in the 10,000 meters with a time of 28 minutes, 54.14 seconds. This surpassed the previous record of 29:01.03 set by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey.

At just 24 years old, Chebet has already made a name for herself in the world of distance running. She finished ahead of Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia, who completed the race in 29:05.92 in cloudy and cool conditions at Hayward Field.

Beatrice Chebet is one of the rising stars in long-distance running and she has proved it once again with her record-breaking performance at Prefontaine Classic meet in Eugene. She won the silver medal in the 5,000 meters at the world championships held at Hayward Field in 2022, and secured the bronze medal in the same event at the previous year’s championships in Budapest. The Prefontaine Classic serves as the only American stop on the international Diamond League series, attracting top athletes from around the world to compete in various track and field events.
