University Health is bringing its expertise to the East Side with the construction of the Wheatley clinic. This new medical complex will be located near the Wheatley Sports Complex and will offer primary care, urgent care, pharmacy services, and more. The clinic is set to open in early 2026 and will serve as a secondary location for the University Hospital’s Institute for Public Health.
The construction of this clinic received support from the Bexar County Commissioners Court, who allocated $40 million from the American Recovery Act Plan to support this expansion. George B. Hernandez Jr., President and CEO of University Health, expressed his vision for this new facility: to improve access to healthcare services and bring cutting-edge technology, specialists, and health education resources closer to home for thousands of families.
Precinct 4 County Commissioner Tommy Calvert commended this project for its commitment to promoting a healthy community on the East Side. He thanked the Eastern Triangle for advocating for healthcare improvements and recognized University Health and the Commissioners Court for responding to the needs of their community. This expansion is just one way that University Health continues its mission of providing quality healthcare services to residents in San Antonio.
