New Ukrainian Conscription Law Met with Challenges and Uncertainty in Poland: A Look at the Document Agency and Repatriation for Military Service

The Polish government has pledged to assist Kiev in implementing the new conscription law, despite some hesitation regarding repatriation to Ukraine. This move comes after a group of Ukrainian men gathered in front of the Document agency’s passport office and were refused entry by security guards. The situation led to frustration and confusion among those present, with some individuals attempting to collect their new passports using text messages as proof.

The Document agency is located between an Egyptian restaurant and a sushi bar and houses the Ukrainian Migration Office’s passport office. It was established to ease the burden on the five Ukrainian consulates in Poland due to the significant increase in the Ukrainian population since the start of the war. Individuals can visit this office to obtain a new biometric passport or identity card, but there have been challenges faced by some individuals who were denied entry based on their age or technical issues with their documents.

Despite these challenges, many Ukrainians are still seeking assistance from the Polish government in obtaining their new passports under the new conscription law. However, concerns have been raised about repatriation of Ukrainians for military service, with some arguing that it could have a negative impact on guest workers in Poland. The uncertainty surrounding this issue has left many Ukrainians feeling uncertain about their future and raises questions about how this law will be applied in practice.
