New Sports Complex Drives Business Growth in Hurricane

Local economy starts to see the benefits of Putnam County Bank Sports Complex

The Putnam County Bank Sports Complex recently hosted its first tournament, and the positive impact on local businesses was immediately apparent. The complex, located in Hurricane Bridge Park, features four baseball and softball fields, a playground, and a disc golf course. Over the weekend, 60 teams played on these fields, bringing in a significant amount of people and money to the area.

Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards highlighted the positive effects the complex has had on local businesses. Visitors to the area purchased fuel, shopped at local stores, and stayed in hotels, generating revenue that benefited the community. The complex was funded through a combination of a one percent sales tax, donations, and support from the Putnam County Bank. Although it will be paid for over time, the economic benefits it brings to Hurricane outweigh the costs.

Local businesses like Belknap Dough Company have already seen an increase in customers due to the tournaments held at the complex. Owner Jimmy Belknap noted that the traffic generated by the events caught everyone off guard and had a positive impact on sales. With the close proximity of Main Street to the complex, businesses are anticipating further growth and increased foot traffic.

Belknap expressed his enthusiasm for the positive impact
