New Specialized Pediatric Ambulance Joins Penn State Health Life Lion Critical Care Transport Fleet

Penn State Health acquires new pediatric ambulance with specialized equipment

A new specialized pediatric ambulance has been added to the Penn State Health Life Lion Critical Care Transport fleet. The ambulance, equipped with advanced specialty equipment including a transport isolette for infants, a ventilator, and a more robust oxygen system compared to a regular ambulance, is designed to provide the same level of care as Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.

The newest addition to the Life Lion fleet functions as a mobile intensive care unit and is staffed by an emergency medical technician, critical care paramedic, and critical care transport registered nurse. It offers additional space in the patient compartment, allowing up to five caregivers to administer care during the transport of ill or injured infants and children.

Funding from the Children’s Miracle Network made the purchase of this specialized vehicle possible. During a news conference on June 4, Janette Migliori shared her daughter Joella’s story – a Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Child who was transported by a pediatric ambulance to Penn State Health Children’s Hospital shortly after birth. Today, Joella is a vibrant 8-year-old who enjoys amusement parks, crafts, and has a special connection to the Life Lion fleet, affectionately calling them “my ambulances.”

With this addition to its fleet, Life Lion is better equipped to transport pediatric patients safely and efficiently. If you require this content in a different format or experience difficulty accessing it, please reach out to Penn State Health Marketing & Communications for further assistance.
