New Regulations: Strict Controls for Influencer Marketing in Abu Dhabi

Regulating agreements between businesses and “influencers” in Abu Dhabi

On Wednesday, the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi issued a circular outlining strict controls and requirements for contracting with social media influencers and sites. In order to conduct advertising and promotional activities on electronic websites and social media platforms, influencers must first obtain a license from the department.

Economic establishments are also required to obtain a permit from the department for any advertisements they conduct. The Department strongly encouraged economic establishments to ensure that they have a valid license when engaging with influencers, as non-compliance could result in penalties and violations. Violators may face fines ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 dirhams, as well as the closure of their facility.
