New Partnership Between BMW Group and Rimac Technology Brings Cutting-Edge High-Voltage Battery Technology to the Automotive Industry

The BMW Group and Rimac Technology, based near Zagreb, Croatia, have recently announced a long-term partnership aimed at developing and producing high-voltage battery technology solutions for specific battery-electric vehicles. Rimac Technology will supply high-voltage battery units for the BMW Group’s lineup of products in upcoming model generations starting in the latter half of the 2020s. The BMW Group, with over 15 years of expertise in battery and electric drive systems, is bringing its knowledge to the partnership.

As part of the Rimac Group, Rimac Technology specializes in automotive electrification. Their portfolio includes high-voltage battery packs, e-axles, as well as electronics and software solutions. These products are all designed, engineered, and manufactured in-house, offering cutting-edge technology with a high degree of customization.

Mate Rimac, the Founder and CEO of Rimac Group, expressed his excitement about the partnership while highlighting his personal connection to BMW. His first electric car project was based on a BMW 3 Series. Meanwhile, BMW shared their perspective on the partnership by noting that it signifies Rimac Technology’s transition from a niche high-performance supplier to a high-volume Tier 1 supplier. With Rimac Technology’s growth and establishment of Rimac Campus, they are poised to take on large-scale projects for top automotive brands.

The specific form, scope, and content of this partnership will be revealed by the two partners at a later stage. However, this collaboration represents a significant step forward in the electrification sector and showcases the potential for cutting-edge innovation in high-voltage battery technology.

The BMW Group is gearing up for the launch of its sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology which promises advancements in areas such as range and charging time.
