In a bid to accommodate the growing population of Jerusalem, a joint planning team comprising of the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Transport has recently issued a tender for a feasibility study and preliminary design of three new metro lines in the Israeli capital.

As such, it has been determined that by 2030, Jerusalem will require eight tram lines in operation. The goal is to have construction of these new metro lines begin by 2040.
