New Metro Lines Earmarked for Jerusalem as Population Continues to Grow

Jerusalem metro design tender announced

In a bid to accommodate the growing population of Jerusalem, a joint planning team comprising of the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Transport has recently issued a tender for a feasibility study and preliminary design of three new metro lines in the Israeli capital.

According to experts involved, the current rate of population growth in Jerusalem necessitates more transportation infrastructure than previously planned. As such, it has been determined that by 2030, Jerusalem will require eight tram lines in operation. The goal is to have construction of these new metro lines begin by 2040.

The tender specifies that the design work for the new metro lines should be completed by the end of 2026. While this is an ambitious timeline, it is necessary to ensure that construction can begin on time. This timeline allows for thorough planning and design work to be completed before groundbreaking starts.

The publication of this tender represents a significant step towards improving Jerusalem’s public transportation system. With the expected population growth in the coming years, adding new metro lines will be essential in ensuring efficient and reliable transportation for residents and visitors alike.
