New John Curtis High School Wrestling Coach Andrew Nicola: A Successful Track Record and a Return to the NOLA Metro Area

New wrestling coach Andrew Nicola hired by John Curtis for Prep Sports team

Andrew Nicola, a successful wrestling coach with a track record of winning LHSAA state championships, has been hired as the new coach at John Curtis High School. He takes over the position from former coach John Kendrick, who retired following Curtis’ Division III state runner-up season in February.

Nicola is a familiar face in the New Orleans metro area and has previously coached at Brother Martin High School, where he won two Division I state titles during his five-season tenure. Prior to joining Curtis, he led Brother Martin to state championships in 2020 and 2022 and served as an assistant coach during their 2019 title win.

After his departure from Brother Martin following the 2024 season, Nicola was replaced by Nick Shields, a three-time LHSAA state wrestling champion and 2008 graduate of the school. Shields was hired as the new head coach in April.
