Utah Hockey Club Acquires Defenseman John Marino from Devils

The Devils have recently announced a trade involving defenseman John Marino and a fifth-round pick with the Utah Hockey Club. In exchange, they received the No. 49 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and Edmonton’s 2025 second-round pick.

John Marino, a 27-year-old defenseman, was originally drafted by the Oilers in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019 after playing college hockey at Harvard. Marino was later traded to New Jersey on July 16, 2022, for Ty Smith and a 2023 third-round pick.

During his time with New Jersey, Marino played in 139 games over two seasons, including 75 games last season. He tallied eight goals and 35 assists during his time with the Devils. In his five NHL seasons, Marino has accumulated 18 goals, 89 assists, and boasts a +38 plus/minus rating.

With the second-round pick acquired in the trade, New Jersey selected Mikhail Yegorov, the top-ranked North American goaltender from the Omaha Lancers (USHL). Yegorov is expected to bring skill and depth to the Devils’ goaltending roster.
