New Hires Shake Up Washington Commanders’ Linebacker Woes: Luvu, Wagner Ranked among Top 32 in League

The NFL’s Top-Ranked Linebackers are on Commanders’ Roster

The Washington Commanders have had a history of struggling to field good linebackers in recent years, despite having talented head coach and defensive coordinator. However, with the arrival of new head coach Dan Quinn and GM Adam Peters, the team has made significant upgrades to their linebacking unit in the early stages of NFL free agency in March.

Pro Football Focus recognized their improvements by ranking Wagner and Luvu among the top 32 linebackers in the league. PFF highlighted Wagner’s continued excellence as a run defender, despite his age, and Luvu’s emergence as a strong run defender and effective blitzer. The addition of these two key players has completely transformed the linebacker position for Washington. Luvu’s versatility will allow the team to utilize him as a pass rusher, while Wagner’s leadership skills have already made an impact.

Under the guidance of Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr., Washington’s new linebackers are expected to play a crucial role in improving the team’s overall defensive performance in the upcoming 2024 season. With Wagner and Luvu joining their linebacker core, the Commanders are poised to have much better defensive play.
