New Hire for Western U.S. Economy Beat at the Wall Street Journal Brings Diverse Background and Strong Business Journalism Skills

Houston, Texas-based reporter Harriet Torry has been assigned to cover the Western U.S. economy for the Wall Street Journal. She has previously focused on consumers in her coverage of the U.S. economy from the Washington, D.C., bureau and has also covered the Federal Reserve. Torry began her career at the Journal in Frankfurt as a financial reporter before moving to Berlin to cover the German government and economy during the eurozone sovereign debt crisis. Before joining the Journal, she worked at Deutsche Welle.

Chris Roush, a former dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, is an experienced business journalist with a diverse background in journalism. He has held various positions at Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune, and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. Roush is also an author who has written two books: “Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication” and “Thinking Things Over,” a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster. In addition to his work as a journalist and author, he has also served as a professor at UNC-Chapel Hill where he was named Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism.
