Sources: Kevin Young set to become new head coach of BYU, replacing Mark Pope

Mark Pope, who recently left Brigham Young University (BYU) to become the new head coach at the University of Kentucky, has been replaced by Kevin Young as the new head coach at BYU. Young, who is originally from Salt Lake City and began his coaching career in the U.S. as an assistant at Utah State in 2007, will be taking over the position left vacant by Pope.

Young will finish coaching the Phoenix Suns through the NBA playoffs, where they are set to face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round as the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference. Once he begins his duties as head coach at BYU, he will immediately start building his coaching staff and kickstarting the recruiting process for the upcoming season.

Kevin Young has extensive coaching experience with eight seasons as an assistant in the NBA under his belt. Before joining the Phoenix Suns, he spent five seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and previously worked in the NBA G League. He also has a background in college coaching, having been an assistant at Oxford College and Utah State.
