New Fire Science Program Combines Practical Training with Comprehensive Classroom Learning

Madison County Schools introduce new fire science program for students

The Alabama Fire College has partnered with the Madison County Career Technical Center to offer a new Fire Science program. This collaboration will provide students with comprehensive training in fire science to prepare them for a successful career in firefighting.

Principal Michael Counts expressed excitement about the program, stating that the combination of practical training and classroom learning is beneficial. The program will begin in the 2024-2025 school year with eight high school students enrolled. Course offerings will include Volunteer Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness and Operations. Upon completion of the program, students can apply for scholarships to attend the six-week bridge program at the Alabama Fire College.

The Madison County School System is thrilled about the opportunities that this partnership will bring to students interested in pursuing a career in firefighting. Through this collaboration, students will receive the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in the firefighting industry.
