New Exhibits and Free Admission: A Gift from Ken Griffin to the Museum of Science and Industry

The Museum of Science and Industry: Now the Griffin Museum

The Museum of Science and Industry, located in Hyde Park, has received a $125 million donation from Kenneth C. Griffin, the founder and CEO of the Citadel hedge fund in 2019. To commemorate this occasion, the museum will offer free admission on Sunday.

Griffin’s donation is the largest in the museum’s history and has enabled the creation of new exhibits and experiences for visitors to enjoy. Among these are the Griffin Studio digital space and Notes to Neurons, an interactive multimedia exhibit focused on music. The museum has also been able to renovate its Henry Crown Space Center with funding from Griffin’s donation, which now features the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and a film experience called “Superhuman Body: World of Medical Marvels.”

Griffin has been a significant supporter of the arts in Chicago, making substantial donations to organizations such as the Field Museum and sitting on the board of the MCA. His philanthropy extends beyond Chicago, with donations to other cultural institutions and nonprofits. Despite relocating Citadel’s headquarters to Miami in 2022, Griffin’s impact on education and the arts remains solidified through his generosity towards various cultural institutions.

The Museum of Science and Industry invites everyone to come celebrate this momentous occasion by visiting for free on Sunday. The new exhibits are sure to be a treat for visitors who want to learn more about science and technology through interactive experiences that engage all senses.
