New Coaching Duo for Macclesfield FC: Robbie Savage and Emile Heskey Join the Team

Savage appointed as head coach of Macclesfield

The formation of Macclesfield FC in October 2020 was marked by the appointment of former footballer Robbie Savage as a member of the board and a shareholder. Recently, Savage has been named the head coach of the club, replacing Michael Clegg.

In addition to Savage, Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has also joined Macclesfield in an undisclosed role. Heskey previously played for England and had over 800 games in his career. He has also made a transition into coaching since retiring, working with Leicester City’s women’s team and coaching roles with England’s youth set-up.

Savage previously served as the director of football for Macclesfield but chose to stay with the club when offered a senior role elsewhere. The club has seen many changes in its coaching staff since its establishment, with Savage being the seventh manager appointed since 2020. Peter Band has been brought on board as Savage’s assistant coach.

Macclesfield FC narrowly missed out on promotion last season, losing in a play-off match to Marine. Despite this setback, the club has achieved two promotions and a semi-final appearance in the FA Trophy in its first three and a half years of existence.
