Pakistan reappoint Babar Azam despite struggles ahead of World Cup

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Babar Azam as white-ball captain in preparation for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup. The selection committee unanimously recommended his appointment after his successful performance as Test captain under new leadership.

Azam’s reappointment was announced on social media, following a period of challenges under new leadership, where the team faced defeats in Test matches in Australia and T20I series in New Zealand. In order to improve the team’s performance, the selection committee was recently reorganized.

As part of their preparation for the upcoming World Cup, Pakistan will play a series of T20Is against New Zealand, Ireland, and England. The newly appointed PCB chairman has introduced changes to the selection process, aiming to involve the captain and head coach in decision-making.

The team is currently undergoing a two-week training camp at an army base in Kakul to prepare for the upcoming series and tournaments. In addition to Azam’s reappointment, fast bowler Mohammad Amir has come out of retirement, and all-rounder Imad Wasim has reversed his decision to retire. These developments are aimed at strengthening the team ahead of the World Cup.

Pakistan will be looking to improve their performance and make a mark in the upcoming competitions.
