New Beginnings for Haiti: The Transitional Council Swears In and Promises Stability

Newly elected head of transitional council in Haiti

Haiti, a country facing serious state crisis with security problems, is slowly moving towards stability with the establishment of a Transitional Council. The council, tasked with appointing an interim government and preparing for Haiti’s first elections since 2016, was sworn in in March. Edgard Leblanc Fils was elected as its chairman, while Fritz Bélizaire was chosen as the new interim prime minister. However, there were allegations that Bélizaire’s election was not carried out according to the rules.

The Transitional Council was established in response to the escalating crisis in Haiti, where armed groups controlled around 80 percent of Port-au-Prince and more than 360,000 people were displaced within the country. The UN Security Council approved a mission to support Haiti in October, and the country is now on a path towards stability. Despite challenges, there is hope for a brighter future for Haiti with international support and cooperation.
