The Denver Broncos have announced that David Shaw will be joining their front office as a senior personnel executive, marking his return to the NFL after a 16-year absence. Shaw had previously interviewed for the team’s head coaching position in 2023, but ultimately ended up being traded for Sean Payton instead. Payton and Shaw share a history together, having both worked as offensive assistants for the 1997 Philadelphia Eagles and staying in touch over the years.
Before joining the Broncos, Shaw spent 12 successful years as head coach at Stanford University, where he compiled a record of 96-54 and won three Pac-12 Championships. In addition to his time at Stanford, Shaw’s coaching career began with assistant positions at the Eagles and Oakland Raiders in the late 1990s before moving up to quarterbacks coach for the Raiders in 2001 and transitioning to coaching quarterbacks and wide receivers for the Baltimore Ravens.
Despite interviewing with other NFL teams this offseason, Shaw ultimately landed a role in the Broncos’ front office due to his extensive experience in both college and professional football, along with his success on the sidelines.
