Businesses Remain Liable for Serving Minors Despite Law Ending Mandatory ID Checks for Alcohol Sales

The Oklahoma ABLE Commission has emphasized that business owners will still be held accountable if minors are served, even after the passage of a new law that removes the requirement for businesses to check IDs before serving alcohol. The law gives businesses the option to decide whether or not they want to check IDs, but the commission stated that they will continue to enforce the same standards regarding individuals under the age of 21.

Lori Carter from the ABLE Commission expressed that they are not concerned about the impact of the new law, as the commission has never issued a ticket for failure to check an ID. However, she explained that it is now up to business owners to implement and enforce their own policies to ensure compliance with the law and protect their business and the public.
