New $25 Million North Charleston Sports Complex Opens for Community use

North Charleston Sports Complex to open its doors to the public on April 1

The North Charleston Sports Complex has officially opened after a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Thursday. The $25 million facility features five regulation-size gymnasiums for various indoor sports such as basketball, volleyball, and badminton, as well as five tennis courts that meet official U.S. Tennis Association standards. Additionally, the complex includes a roller rink for street hockey and roller-skating, and a 25-meter competitive pool that complements the North Charleston Aquatic Center in Dorchester County.

North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess shared his thoughts on the new facility during an interview with WCSC. Burgess expressed his belief that the North Charleston Sports Complex will have a significant impact on the youth in the community, just like the Danny Jones Recreation Center did for him personally. He believes that the facility will help build minds and elevate young athletes.

The new sports facility is open to the public starting from April 1st, with the exception of the pool, which will require a fee. Tj Rostin, director of Parks and Recreation for North Charleston, emphasized that this is just another example of their commitment to recreation and providing opportunities for exercise and fun. Rostin highlighted that this facility is not just about watching kids play basketball but also about coming together as a community to participate in various recreational activities. Currently, outdoor facilities at the complex such as roller-skating rink and tennis courts are available for use.

In summary, North Charleston officials are excited to celebrate the opening of their new sports facility after renovations to their previous Danny Jones Recreation Center. The $25 million North Charleston Sports Complex includes multiple sports facilities such as gymnasiums, tennis courts, roller rink, and swimming pool to provide opportunities for exercise and fun to people of all ages.
