Netivei Israel Takes Proactive Measures to Establish Helipad Network in Tel Aviv Region Amid Closure of Airports

Tel Aviv to Add Five Helipads, Including on Building Roofs

As the closure of Herzliya airport looms in 2025, Netivei Israel is taking proactive measures to establish a network of helicopter landing pads in the Tel Aviv region. The company has identified suitable locations for five helipads, including rooftops of office buildings and industrial areas, that meet specific criteria such as being within a 10-minute flight from Tel Aviv and operational day and night.

To identify additional locations for these helipads, Netivei Israel recently extended a tender for alternative options. The company is reviewing proposals from firms interested in designing, building, and operating the facilities for up to 25 years. These helipad facilities typically require around 20 dunams of land to support helicopter operations, passenger services, and maintenance facilities.

Existing examples of helipads in Tel Aviv include those on the roof of Ichilov hospital and in the Ministry of Defense building at the Kiriya government complex. With the closure of Sde Dov airport in 2020 and impending shutdown of Herzliya airport in 2025, there will be no designated airport for helicopters in central Israel’s region. This poses safety and logistical challenges for many helicopters currently operating without regulated landing sites. Netivei Israel’s plan to establish a network of helipads will provide a secure and efficient infrastructure for helicopter travel in the region. Passengers will be able to access these helipads and continue their journey using public transportation.
