Netflix expands into live sports with NFL games airing on Christmas Day

The NFL has announced a three-year agreement with Netflix to broadcast the league’s Christmas Day games. This is a major step for Netflix, as their sports ventures have mostly focused on producing documentaries and live specials about golf and tennis.

Under this deal, Netflix will globally air two NFL games on Christmas Day, with plans to stream “at least one” holiday game in 2025 and 2026. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer, expressed excitement at the opportunity, stating that NFL football attracts unparalleled audiences. Hans Schroeder, NFL’s executive VP of media distribution, highlighted the partnership as a way to grow the Christmas Day games globally for NFL fans.

The deal adds to the NFL’s partnerships with major US broadcast networks and streaming platforms such as Amazon and YouTube TV. This move signals a significant step for both Netflix and the NFL in reaching new audiences and expanding their reach.
