IMSA and NBC Sports ink deal to extend TV partnership

In a major boost for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, NBC Sports and IMSA have agreed on a multi-year extension of their media rights deal. This means that NBC Sports will continue to be the home of the championship and other IMSA-sanctioned series. Under the new agreement, NBC Sports will broadcast 17 hours of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship coverage annually, which is a significant increase from the previous agreement. Additionally, all WeatherTech Championship events will be available for live streaming on Peacock.

The partnership between NBC Sports and IMSA has been a huge success over the past five years, with viewership growing by 37% since securing media rights in 2019. The 2023 season was the most-watched season yet, with a 13% increase in viewership on NBC and USA Network compared to the previous year. Furthermore, this year’s coverage on Peacock has seen a 60% increase in total minutes streamed compared to last year.

IMSA President John Doonan is thrilled about the extension with NBC Sports, highlighting the consistent growth in viewership since the partnership began in 2019. He also noted the valuable platform that Peacock provides for delivering live coverage of endurance races to fans in the United States. Justin Byczek, SVP of Programming and Rights Management at NBC Sports, expressed pride in continuing their partnership with IMSA and ensuring that fans can enjoy high-quality and competitive racing across NBC Sports’ platforms.

Fans can look forward to NBC Sports’ continuing coverage of IMSA in 2024, starting with the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen this weekend on USA Network and Peacock.
