The NBA playoffs have commenced, and with it, the anticipation for the regular season’s awards. Before the first Play-In game on April 16th, ballots were due. The NBA has announced the finalists for its top awards, with Wembanyama and Gilgeous-Alexander being nominated for multiple accolades. Jokic and Gobert are expected to win their respective awards, while other winners would be first-timers.
The schedule for when each award will be given is not officially released by the NBA yet. However, it is typical that they are handed out in the first and second rounds of the playoffs. Last season, the first award was given on the first Monday of the first round, with Jaren Jackson Jr. winning Defensive Player of the Year. MVP was announced for Joel Embiid ahead of Game 2 of his second-round series against the Boston Celtics.
With the votes tallied and finalists named, we can expect to hear about this season’s award winners soon. The winners will be presented with their awards in the upcoming rounds of the playoffs.
