The Navy Medicine Training Support Center (NMTSC) hosted a graduation ceremony on June 11, 2024, for the students of the Surgical Technology Program (Phase II). This program is one of three “C” schools offered at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune (NMCCL) and spans five months. Over 120 hours of sterile processing training and 1000 clinical hours where students supported 120 surgical cases were included in the program.
During the ceremony, graduates honored their preceptor who they felt had most assisted with their development as surgical technologists. Hospital Corpsman Third Class Brice Jackson received the “Golden Scalpel Award” for his exceptional guidance and mentorship. Command Master Chief Jason Roeder shared his insights and experiences as a surgical technologist, emphasizing the importance of patient care and personal growth in the medical field. Roeder, who completed three tours of duty to Iraq as a surgical technologist during his Navy Medicine career, encouraged graduates to carry forth what they have learned to fleet surgical teams worldwide.
The graduates expressed their gratitude for the knowledge and skills they had gained throughout the program and looked forward to applying them in their future endeavors. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the graduates’ journey towards becoming skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals in the Navy.
